Anniversary #2: Speke Resort

When we got married we couldn't have imagined that we would be spending our first AND second anniversary in Uganda (and I have to add third as well, thanks to our decision to stay here until December 2011...surprise!) We celebrate 2 years of marriage this coming Tuesday (October 5th) and while we couldn't really top last year's vacation in Zanzibar, we managed to have a wonderful, relaxing weekend at the Speke Resort on Lake Victoria in Kampala. The resort is a huge contrast from the nearby city, with two swimming pools, beautiful gardens, 5-star restaurants and a gorgeous waterfront view.

Awhile back I received an email from a Welsh couple, Mark and Keren, telling me they'd found our blog online while doing some research as they planned to move to Uganda. Since then, we've been following each other's blogs even though we've never met. And, small world that we live in, we ran into them in the lobby of the hotel and just happened to recognize each other's faces from our blogs! Their 7-year old daughter took the photo above. As Keren said, it was sort of like spotting a movie star - someone you've never met but have seen pictures of and know all about! We're excited to get to know them better and have some new friends to visit when we go to Kampala.

So to sum it all up, I married the best guy in the world. And to celebrate that in Uganda for the second year in a row is...amazing!

  3. Megan, I'm glad to hear that you are enjoying life in Africa so much. Being here 2 1/2 weeks and being so sick... I'm not really feeling the love. :) So it gives me hope that my perspective will change with time. Oh, and happy anniversary!!!
