We've Got Students!

As of last night we had 11 girls sleeping in our dorm!

We are expecting more students to be coming tomorrow and Friday, but this small starting group hasn't prevented classes from getting underway.

The girls look adorable in their uniforms, and they all have huge smiles on their faces, so excited to be here!

Election Weekend

We were in Entebbe with our coworkers over election weekend, and we're happy to report that elections are over and everything is pretty peaceful around here! I don't know much about politics, but I know that African politics can have unpredictable outcomes at times, so we're thankful for safety and peace so far.

Our weekend in Entebbe was a great chance to relax and spend time with our friends before our school opens this week and things get busy!

Paul and Jeff are cool.

Thanks for your prayers during this time, and please continue to pray for peace in Uganda!

Getting Ready

This week there is a lot of activity going on at the Timothy Centre as we prepare to open our school on Monday! Plus, there is an added time crunch of national elections on Friday, which means everyone will be voting, not working. So we basically have one more day to get the school in running order! Here's what's happening today...

Mattresses arrived for the bunk beds

Curtains have been hung in the dorm rooms

Who's that hot guy?

Classrooms are being set up with the desks and chairs

Lizabee is sewing shower curtains for the girls

Please pray for a peaceful election on Friday and the days following, and for a successful start to term one at the Timothy Girls College on Monday!

TGC at GC

I've spent the last 5 days in Kampala with some of our staff at Garden City (the mall) promoting Timothy Girls College! The timing worked out perfectly because the S4 results were released on Tuesday (the release date changed about 3 times) which means this is the perfect week for girls going into S5 (what we're accepting at TGC) to register! If that makes any sense. It doesn't to me. But the part I get is that we need students, and our teachers were doing a great job advertising and spreading the word about our school! When I left today there were a lot of names and phone numbers written down, and lots of registration forms had been handed out. We are hoping that by tomorrow people return their registration forms, pick up bank slips, and deposit their tuition! Our new TGC website: www.timothygirlscollege.blogspot.com

The Much Anticipated Camera

We got a new camera...

...and I am having FUN learning how to use it! I welcome any and all tips and tricks, since right now I pretty much know...nothing.

Bring on the Students!

This coming week, in an effort to get the Timothy Girls College name out there and hopefully get some applications, a few of us are heading up to Kampala to set up a booth in the mall and advertise our school. Seems like 2 weeks before the first day of classes is cutting it a bit close, but apparently that's how it's done around here since the students' results from last year's exams still haven't come out yet. But when they do come out (hopefully this week), we're hoping and praying that there will be a good number of girls entering S5 (senior high school) that will be interested in TGC!

This week we will do our best to show people ways that our school stands out from the rest - from the quality of Biblical education to the quality of the construction...from the leadership training to the good food! And everything else in between.

This afternoon Paul and I walked around and took some up-to-date photos of the buildings to show at our booth.

The Dorm

The Classrooms

Science Lab

The Administration

The Dining Hall

Canteen

The Headmistress' House

The Guesthouses (a.k.a. Our Home!)

As you can see, there are bits and pieces that are still under construction and there are a lot of finishing touches that need to be completed over the next two weeks! Pray for Paul as he will be very busy preparing the physical buildings...and pray for the students to fill them!

Amin

Things I love about Amin, the plumber:

1. He (a plumber) regularly tells Paul (not a plumber) how much he's learning from him about plumbing.

2. He took a liking to my brother Kevin when he was here, inviting him away for the weekend to visit an island. When Paul asked why he wasn't invited Amin just laughed.

3. He wears the fancy clothes underneath his work coveralls.

4. He has a crazy collection of hats, which he sports with pride. Today he turned function into fashion when he showed up in this:

Gotta love him!
