Here We Are!

Well, here we are, we have finally made it to Uganda! We arrived around 8am on Wednesday morning. We were greeted by Karl and Arleen - who then took us grocery shopping, household shopping, cell phone shopping, fruit/vegetable shopping (from the side of the road)...and we picked up the car that we will be driving - and finally made it home by 5:30pm. Needless to say we were exhausted!

Time for an update on the good, the bad, and the ugly:

The bad and the ugly:

- rooster outside the bedroom window that cock-a-doodle-doos at 5:30am without fail every morning

- ants in our bread (yes, that was our fault)

- cold shower on day 1 (because we couldn't figure out the water heater)

- power outages...basically every day

- a thin layer of red dust covering every surface, including skin

- Paul driving our vehicle on the right side of the car and the left side of the road - in Masaka traffic

- it's impossible to upload pictures to this blog from the internet cafe!

The good:

- all 6 of our bags arrived with all items accounted for

- a drive out to Kibaale on our first day, where we caught the family team just on time as they were leaving for their safari

- grocery stores a couple hours away carry just about anything and everything we can get back home

- the rooster is being eaten for lunch tomorrow by the boys that own it at their church (YAY!)

- we experienced our first African downpour this afternoon

- 3 of the most giant avocados you've ever seen in your life cost us 25 cents in total (each about 1.5 times the size of a grapefruit!)

- we will soon have internet (slow) at our house

- we don't live back in the day when Grandma and Grandpa were missionaries in Zaire and it took 3 weeks to send a telegram!

- we visited the Timothy Centre property yesterday, and it is absolutely gorgeous! Luscious, green, quiet, beautiful view...and we get to live there in 2 1/2 months (if all goes well of course)

Anyways, we will update again when we have more to say. The last few days have been just getting to know our way around, meeting people, and settling into our house. It takes some getting used to having to wash our vegetables in bleach and boil all our water. But we are already getting into the routine and are settling in.
