Things I have learned over the past 36 days:
- how to light the gas stove and oven with a very small match and not burn myself
- how to make popcorn on the stove (mmm, I'm eating some right now)
- how to quickly convert Ugandan shillings to Canadian dollars
- how NOT to grind coffee (see previous post if you're confused about that one)
- how to kill an army of ants
- the importance of washing the dishes immediately after dinner
- the importance of mosquito nets
- how to communicate with people who don't speak English (okay that's a lie, but we TRY to do that)
- how to ripen a pineapple: pull the leaves off the top and turn it upside down
- how to kill, pluck, skin, and cook a chicken (NOT!)
- how much we LOVE our friends and family
- how to eat ant-infested food: pick out the ants and eat up!
- how to drive on the opposite side of the car and road (only Paul...not me, yet)
- how to squat in the shower because the nozzle doesn't reach up high enough to stand
- how to balance large jugs of water on my head (no, that's not true either)
- how to negotiate prices
- how to sleep through the sounds of barking dogs, crowing roosters, loud music, crying babies, and LOUD mosques
- the importance of being flexible and patient
- the bright side of living a slower paced life (I actually have time to read and do Sudoku!)
- that rain here is actually a good thing
- and most importantly, we have BOTH learned to trust God wholeheartedly in everything!
Okay I have officially waited the usual 5 million years for the first picture to upload, and it still hasn't, which means I either need to give up the rest of my day waiting or there's something wrong. I'm guessing there's something wrong. Sorry friends, we will have to do the pictures next time! I'll try again later.
I learned something new from you! I now know how to ripen a pineapple!
