THE CB 5: Lake Nabugabo

This past weekend we decided to find somewhere to get away for a night - we wanted to see something new and have a chance to relax. So on Saturday morning we drove to Lake Nabugabo (only a 1/2 hour drive from our house!) The day was a bit stormy with big dark clouds, and on the drive there it started to pour, which made it all the more fun! Because our decision to go was so last minute, we had no idea where we were staying when we got there. But we came across a place on the lake called "Terrace View Beach" where the rooms were cheap and there was a restaurant and nice area to sit overlooking the lake.

First things first, we decided to order lunch. I ordered fish and chips - you can't go wrong with fish and chips, right? (See photo below and you will have an answer to that question). I literally got a whole FISH. And chips. And with the fish staring at me with his mouth open, I still ate it! Paul was proud of me. I was proud of myself. And it actually tasted good!

After a couple hours of reading and relaxing, another car pulled in, and out came 2 Irish girls and a German guy. We introduced ourselves and ended up playing cards for the rest of the day (literally...we only stopped to eat dinner). It was great to meet some people our age and just hang out with them. At night there was no power so we lit candles and kept playing cards! The next day was just as relaxing, and we drove our new friends back to Masaka on the way home. The girls are here for the next 5 months, so we'll be getting together with them again. All in all, a successful and relaxing weekend! OH, and we saw monkeys on the way home. Chasing each other in a field.

Unfortunately, the day before we left (Friday) Paul had to attend the funeral of one of his workers' father. Although he had never met the man, he said it was quite moving, and he was sad to see his worker so upset - apparently the father was not very old. Paul received a public thank you at the funeral, and was referred to as "Engineer Paul." Except that Paul is not an engineer. So he thought that was funny.

Well, a new week has begun, and Paul continues to be busy at work. I have been working on typing some more lesson plans, making flash cards, and sewing sack material to make charts for the classrooms and pages for books.
